No Man Is an Island - single

about

After a fateful vote in the UK almost 5 years ago, John Donne’s 400-year-old words were widely used as they captured the sense of a lost connection but also expressed the hope that a link would remain because - as he says: No man is an island!
This last year’s pandemic has once more seen Donne’s words become a poignant reminder that we are all part of the main and that our actions have an impact on others. Paradoxically, we have shown respect for the connection by isolating.
Personally, we have had to face the choice of staying or going.
We will be leaving the island that has been our home and adopted country for the last 13 years but insist on the words that we are all part of the main – divided by water and politics or not.

So there are several reasons that this song is important to us, and we hope you can sense both the melancholy and the hope embedded in it.

“No Man is an Island” finds Waterfahl’s Nordicana sound wrapped in a downbeat electro pop vibe with a digital drum beat and ambient sounds in an effort to create the melancholy atmosphere along with the wailing harmonica and the soft piano. The bass takes a main role playing a melody line, and guitars join in and add colour. The main vocal quietly reflects on the sentiment that no man is an island while backing vocals convey a bit more urgency.

This is the second single from upcoming album due out later this year.

lyrics

Sending out a message – wrapped in hope
From these shores across the sea
A message in a bottle – that’s my hope
Maybe there’s an answer for me

Every hour of every day I wanna know
I wanna know: Do I stay – or do I go

No man is an island – famous words
Count for women, too, I think
Every man and woman – part of the main
There will always be a link

Every hour of every day I wanna know
I wanna know: Do I stay – or do I go

Every hour of every day I wanna know
I wanna know: Do I stay – or do I go
